the beholder. Many people and cultures share the love of art. With the birth of the human race came the birth of art; our earliest ancestors
practiced art. When man first learnt to use tools they made weapons to hunt to feed their families. Tools were also used to carve pictures
which related to their lives, this was to tell the family of their adventures. These early artworks helped the world understand how past generations of people lived, and act as fine food for our imaginations. How did these people live their lives? Art tells the story,
modern man views their artworks as wonders of early man.

This article is about the academic discipline of art history. For an overview of the history of art worldwide, see History of art.
Art history is the academic study of objects of art in their historical development and stylistic contexts, i.e. genre, design, format, and look. Moreover, art history generally is the research of artists and their cultural and social contributions.
As a term, art history encompasses several methods of studying the visual arts; in common usage referring to the study of works of art and architecture. The definition is, however, wide-ranging, with aspects of the discipline overlapping upon art criticism and art theory.
Ernst Gombrich observed that "the field of art history [is] much like Caesar's Gaul, divided in three parts inhabited by three different, though not necessarily tribes: (i) the connoisseurs, (ii) the critics, (iii) the academic art historians". As a discipline, art history is distinguished from art criticism, which is concerned with establishing a relative artistic value upon individual works with respect to others of comparable style, or sanctioning an entire style or movement; and art theory, which is concerned with the fundamental nature of art, and is more related to aesthetics investigating the enigma of the sublime and determining the essence of beauty, i.e. artistic appeal. Technically, art history is not these things, because the art historian uses historical methods to answer the questions: How did the artist come to create the work? Who were the patrons? Who were his or her teachers? Who was the audience? Who were his or her disciples? What historical forces shaped the artist's oevre and how did he or she and the creation, in turn, affect the course of artistic, political, and social events?

Price per "page" - includes up to 20 select images of your Art / Photography / or Sculpting. Basic page setup and backing is included in
the price.
1. A full page on this site from as little as $250 for 3 months - up to 20 product images per page. Images all with a backup information page. -Including a "Profile Page", - (some setup costs may apply).

2. For the more reputable dealers and suppliers, we are able to setup a web-based shopping cart to allow people to shop online..(this
would suit a limited product range such as "paint, artist brushes and art accessories"). Costs apply to this service, please enquire.
NOTE: BUYART and SELLART acts as site administer. We do not become involved in disputes, any purchases through this site are directly between the buyer and the seller.
